Unique Ads Targeting and User Acquisition with RudderStack and Facebook Custom Audience

Integrating Facebook Custom Audience with RudderStack lets you send your customer events to create custom audiences via the Facebook Marketing API. Once the destination is configured and enabled, events from RudderStack will start flowing to Custom Audience.

By adding Facebook Custom Audience as a destination in the RudderStack dashboard, you can:

  • Send your customer event data directly to Facebook and add it to existing Facebook Custom Audiences
  • Format the user data in the format prescribed by the Facebook Marketing API using the Explicit Formatting Feature
  • Track and use a particular session ID while adding or removing users via sessionIdAdd and sessionIdDelete

What you can do with Facebook Custom Audience

To set up and use Facebook Custom Audiences, you will need a reliable source of customer data, i.e., your data warehouse. You'll also need to create a list of email addresses or phone numbers and upload it to the Audiences tab in the Ads Manager. You can use those audiences in many ways, including targeting messages, and generating lookalike audiences to find similar new users. However, the process of manually pulling a list and uploading it to Facebook is time-consuming.

With RudderStack, you do not have to worry about pulling data, uploading data, or refreshing your Audiences list.

Create ads for specific segments of your audiences, such as website visitors in the past 30 days, bottom-of-the-funnel email lists, etc.

Pass data to Facebook from your app to specify who you want to include in your Custom Audience to run an app ad engagement campaign

Create an existing customer list with emails, phone numbers, and addresses, and find the audiences you want your ads to reach

Retarget ads to people who have previously engaged with your content across Facebook apps and services

How do you create a Custom Audience on Facebook?

To create a Custom Audience in Facebook:

  1. In the Audience section, go to Custom Audiences and select Create New
  2. Select Custom Audience from the dropdown
  3. Select a source
  4. Enter criteria for your ad set's Custom Audience
  5. Add Name for your audience
  6. Select Create Audience
  7. Click on Done

Where do I find my custom audience on Facebook?

To find your saved audiences:

  1. Go to your Audiences
  2. Click Filters
  3. In the dropdown menu, click Saved Audience
