Releases: Transformation Failure Alerts

You can now configure dedicated alerts for Transformation failures, giving you the ability to take immediate action when problems arise.

Transformation failures can happen for multiple reasons:

Unexpected data causing errors
Testing not covering all use cases across production data, or
A source with new data is connected to the destination.

Previously, these failures would materialize as cloud destination failure alerts, making it difficult to trace problems. With dedicated transformation failure alerting, you’ll be notified if there is an unexpected problem and can take action immediately.

With this feature, you can configure a global failure rate threshold (applicable for all transformations) and specific thresholds for individual transformations.

Releases: Transformation Credential Store

RudderStack allows you to create and pass sensitive user secrets or environment variables as configurable credentials to your transformations.

By storing secrets and variables in RudderStack’s credential store, you can avoid hardcoding sensitive information in your transformations and avoid any security risks.

RudderStack credential store supports two types of credentials:

Secrets let you store text values encrypted. You can use them to securely store sensitive information like passwords, app secrets, API keys and authorization tokens.
Variables are non-encrypted strings that you can use to store application configuration.

Releases: Feature Launch: Transformations for Real-time Schema Fixes

Tracking plans enable you to catch violations and quarantine or drop bad data before it gets downstream. But without remedying the bad data, you’re left with an incomplete dataset and a partial picture of your customer.

Today, we’re introducing real-time schema fixes with Transformations so you can fix bad data while maintaining an efficient workflow. This feature is part of our Data Quality Toolkit, a set of capabilities that help you guarantee quality data from the source so you can spend less time wrangling and more time helping your business drive revenue.

Using Tracking plans, you can enrich your events with violation information like erroneous property names, incorrect data types, or wrong payload structures. Then, you can write transformations in JavaScript or Python to correct these violations before they impact your stakeholders downstream.

Because transformations occur in your pipeline – after event collection and before delivery – you don’t have to worry about submitting a dev ticket. You can fix bad data in real-time without redeploying sites or apps, a critical benefit especially during code freezes.

Releases: Device Mode Transformations

We’re thrilled to announce Device Mode Transformations - the latest update to RudderStack Transformations. We have improved on our previous beta releases, and you can now write JavaScript and Python transformations for device mode destinations like Firebase and Hotjar.

In addition, if you encounter any errors during the transformation process, the feature also introduces a fail-safe mechanism where you can send the untransformed event directly to the destination - ensuring your valuable data is never lost.

Device Mode Transformations is beta feature available only in the RudderStack Cloud Enterprise plan. Contact RudderStack Support to enable it in your workspace.

Releases: GitHub Actions for Transformations

RudderStack now supports Github Actions for transformations!

Prior to this release, managing transformations was limited to the RudderStack dashboard UI. With this update, you can leverage GitHub Actions to seamlessly create, update, and maintain your transformation code written in JavaScript or Python directly from your development repository.

Releases: Transformation Observability

We have updated our Transformations feature, focusing on improved visibility of transformation errors and provide an option to enable notifications.

Prior to this update, transformation errors were visible only under the Events tab of the destination. Based on your feedback, we have now introduced a dedicated Transformation Events option that provides a centralized view of transformation errors, enabling you to identify and take action on any issues quickly. With this option, you can easily filter errors across all destinations or focus on errors specific to a single destination. Additionally, you can now drill down into the errors and examine sample events, facilitating efficient debugging of transformation processes.

To further enhance your Transformations experience, we have also introduced a new notification feature for transformation errors. You can now enable notifications for transformation errors by navigating to the Settings tab. Once enabled, you will receive email notifications in case of transformation errors. Like other notifications, you will receive a maximum of one daily notification for each destination with a transformation error.

Releases: Transformation Testing Enhancements

We have released a new RudderStack feature that enhances transformation testing capabilities.

Previously, you could test transformations using live events to ensure accuracy and reliability. However, in cases where live events are unavailable, having some placeholder event data to test your transformations can be very helpful.

With this update, you can use custom events and test payloads to simulate edge case scenarios to identify and address potential errors in your transformation logic, thereby ensuring effective event processing within RudderStack.

Releases: Geolocation Enrichment

With this update, you can seamlessly enrich your event data without incurring extra costs using additional services like Clearbit API or relying on free alternatives like IP location.
