Rudder Assist Setup Guide Beta

Set up Rudder Assist in your Slack workspace.

This guide walks you through setting up Rudder Assist in your Slack workspace.

Prerequisites

warning
Before you proceed with setup, make sure to opt into the Closed Beta by contacting your RudderStack representative.
  • Access to your RudderStack workspace
  • A Slack channel where Rudder Assist will operate

Set up Rudder Assist

  1. Inform your RudderStack representative to opt into this feature. They will configure Rudder Assist on your Slack channel with your Personal Access Token (PAT) authentication.
  2. Start chatting by mentioning Rudder Assist (@rudder-assist-<yourcompany>) in the channel.

Note that:

  • Rudder Assist starts in Standard mode by default. Contact your RudderStack representative to enable Advanced mode capabilities.
  • Rudder Assist responds only in the designated Slack channel. You cannot use it in direct messages or other channels. All questions and responses are visible to everyone in the channel.
  • Anyone in the Slack channel can use Rudder Assist, including users who may not have direct RudderStack workspace access.

Verify the setup

After deployment, verify that Rudder Assist is working correctly:

  1. Mention Rudder Assist in your Slack channel. For example:
@rudder-assist-<yourcompany> Show me all active sources for this workspace
  1. The assistant will respond with a list of all your active sources.

You can also try asking a simple question:

@rudder-assist-<yourcompany> Give me an overview of my workspace.

Configure access permissions

info
Rudder Assist inherits permissions from the Personal Access Token (PAT) owner.

To control what the assistant can access, identify the user associated with the Personal Access Token (PAT) and verify that they have the necessary workspace permissions.

Contact your RudderStack representative if you need to change the PAT owner.

Enable Advanced mode (optional)

To enable Advanced mode capabilities:

  1. Contact your RudderStack representative to enable Advanced mode.

  2. Specify the capabilities you want to enable:

    • Transformation Management: Create, update, and deploy transformations
    • SQL Agent (coming soon): Query your data warehouse
  3. Review the data privacy implications in the Security and Compliance guide.

info
Enable Advanced mode features individually — you do not need to opt in for all capabilities at once.
